Healthcare Service Line Director develops and manages all functions within a specific service line e.g., oncology, cardiac, women's, orthopedics. Establishes effective strategies for programs, product/service line, and physician integration and resource utilizations with the goal of increasing service line growth, efficiency, and patient experience. Being a Healthcare Service Line Director requires a bachelor's degree or its equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Healthcare Service Line Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Healthcare Service Line Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Director, Cancer Service Line

    This position will oversee multiple locations throughout the Portland Metro area. Candidate must reside in either Oregon or Washington. 

     

    A candidate with operational experience for hospital based integrated oncology programs and services within a cancer integrated network across multiple hospitals is strongly preferred. 

     

    Responsibilities

    The Director of the Cancer Service Line, in partnership with the cancer service line physician director, will be charged with providing overall direction; goal setting; and input to key strategic, clinical, and operational issues facing the cancer service line. Scope of responsibility includes oversight of oncology and hospice service line operations and LMG oncology clinics to ensure alignment with the strategic and operational direction of the cancer service line. The Director of the Cancer Service Line also co-manages the OHSU-Legacy cancer collaborative. Additional responsibilities and qualifications of the cancer service line administrator are described in the sections below.

     

     

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • A master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or related field of study is preferred.

     

    Experience:

    • Five to seven years of progressive management/leadership experience in a similar-sized institution.
    • Prior physician office/clinic experience and experience in the cancer services are highly preferred.

     

    Skills:

    The Director will need to possess the following professional and personal attributes to successfully execute the roles and responsibilities of this position:

    • Knowledge of planning, marketing, financial management, hospital and clinic operations, institutional budgeting, and personnel and facilities management
    • Evidence of the leadership, business acumen, management, and financial skills necessary to manage the service line
    • Ability to plan and delegate assignments, review work, and supervise
    • Management style that emphasizes communication, collegiality, flexibility, and the ability to work with diverse, highly qualified medical staff
    • Highly accomplished in interpersonal diplomacy and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, other providers, and hospital administration
