Histology Technician receives and prepares tissue specimens for routine and special procedures and pathologist review. Performs histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining. Being a Histology Technician maintains accurate tissue and slide records. Cleans and maintains instruments and work areas. Additionally, Histology Technician complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires an associate degree in biology, related science, or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnician certification (HT). Ghost RX is currently looking for a Histology Technician or Histology Technologist to work full-time hours, Monday - Friday from 6:00am to 2:30pm on a contract position for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta, ME. A travel rate is available to those who qualify. Qualified candidates will receive a job offer in a couple of business days and start as soon as credentialed.
Ideal Candidate:
Minimum 3 years of Histology experience
HTL/HT nationally certified is preferred, but not required
Duties:
- Perform specimen collection processing, including receiving, accessioning, and labeling tissue samples
- Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by embedding, cutting, staining, and mounting them on slides
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microtomes, tissue processors, and staining machines
- Follow established protocols and procedures to ensure accurate and consistent results
- Adhere to aseptic techniques to prevent contamination of samples
- Maintain accurate records of all tests performed and results obtained
- Collaborate with pathologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure proper sample handling and interpretation of results
- Assist with quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory tests
