Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnologist certification (HTL). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Develops and monitors the work activities in the Histology Lab and the Morgue. Performs routine histological activities of receiving, preparing, and processing surgical specimens for patients.
REQUIRED:1. All applicants should meet the following education/experience requirements: a. Successful completion of a formal histology technologist training program, or an Associate's degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences. b. Certified as an HT/HTL (ASCP) or eligible to take the HT/HTL (ASCP) exam. Certification eligible applicants must pass examination within eighteen (18) months after school graduation or after moving to the state of Georgia. c. Two (2) years' experience in a pathology laboratory. 2. Attention to detail, good physical dexterity, and good written and oral communication skills. 3. All applicants must submit to and pass a Color-Acuity screening Test. PREFERRED:1. Computer keyboard and information system experience. 2. Immuno chemistry experience and/or training. 3. Bachelor's degree in science, plus successful completion of a formal histology tech program
