Histology Technologist jobs in Richardson, TX

Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnologist certification (HTL). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Description

    Job Summary:

    The Lead, Histology Technologist is responsible for assisting in the oversight of processes, documentation, workflow and problem solving in the histology department. 

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    • None

    Duties/Responsibilities

    • Serve as master trainer.
    • Perform competency assessments.
    • Serves as an escalation point to resolve issues.
    • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specification.
    • Participate in regulatory agency inspection readiness and onsite inspections.
    • Perform equipment validation, reagent optimization and validation following regulatory guidelines and procedures.
    • Report monthly metrics.
    • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
    • Perform grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of patient samples.
    • Maintain proficiency and competency in performance for the testing menu of the department.

    Qualifications


    Education and Experience

    • Associates Degree in laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an

    accredited institution, OR

    • At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that include:
    • 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, or 24 semester hours of

    science courses that include 6 hours of chemistry; 6 hours of biology and 12 semesters

    hours of chemistry, biology, OR

    • Medical laboratory technology in any combination and have laboratory training in

    either: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by

    ABHES, CAHEA, HHS and at least 3 months documented training in each specialty

    in which the individual performs high complexity testing, OR

    • Grandfathered exception (42 CFR 493.1489 and 1491).
