Hospice Director directs, supervises, and governs the hospice program including inpatient care, home care and bereavement follow-up. Administers and maintains quality assurance, environmental, and infection control policies in accordance with facility objectives. Being a Hospice Director prepares reports for hospital administration on activities of the facility operation. Develops hospice related educational and informational programs. Additionally, Hospice Director requires a bachelor's degree of nursing. Typically reports to top management. The Hospice Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Hospice Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     In the role of the Regional Director of Clinical Operations, this Registered Nurse will:

    • Coordinate and oversee all direct and indirect patient services provided by clinical organization personnel.
    • Participate in operational planning and budgeting.
    • Provide guidance and counseling to coordinators and Managers of Clinical Services to assist them in continually improving all aspects of hospice care services, provided through organization personnel.
    • Assist Manager of Clinical Services in managing clinical teams and planning.
    • Provide help in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver care to all clinical personnel as indicated.
    • Assist the Chief Clinical Officer in the preparation and administration of the organization's budget.
    • Interpret operational indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume that could impact staffing levels, revenues or expenses.
    • Evaluate performance of the Manager of Clinical Services.
    • Assist the Manager of Clinical Services to develop skills and techniques in evaluating the performance of clinicians.
    • Hire, evaluate, and terminate organization personnel.
    • Work with the Manager of Clinical Services to conduct annual evaluations on clinicians, or more frequently if indicated.
    • Oversee the maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, reports and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of organization activities.
    • Assure proper maintenance of clinical records in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
    • Responsible for the maintenance of adequate and appropriate inventory supplies and equipment for the provision of patient services.
    • Develop, implement and evaluate the orientation program for new organization personnel.  Responsible for orientation of new organization personnel, directly or delegated.
    • Plan and implement inservice and continuing education programs to meet education and training needs of organization personnel.
    • Assist with the evaluation of organization performance via performance improvement program, productivity, quarterly and annual reviews.  Assure the quality and safe delivery of hospice services provided through the organization.
    • Assist in the development of organization goals.  Develops, recommends, and administers organizational policies and procedures.
    • Assure compliance with all local, state and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of organization personnel and maintains compliance to the CHAP Home Care standards.
    • Stay informed about changes in the field of nursing and hospice care; shares information with appropriate organization personnel.
    • Promote hospice referrals in the health care community.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer.

    Qualifications


    • Registered Nurse with current licensure to practice professional nursing in the state.
    • Hospice leadership required
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program by the National League for Nursing strongly preferred.  Master’s degree preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct professional and administrative personnel.
    • Ability to market and deal tactfully with customers and the community.
    • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organizational requirements and is in good working order.
    • Has excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills.
    • Knowledge of business management, governmental regulations and CHAP standards.
