Housekeeper works to ensure offices, patient/guest rooms, facilities, and other specified areas are kept in a clean and orderly condition. Responsible for general cleaning and maintenance duties which may include: vacuuming, dusting, item washing, trash collecting and proper sorting. Being a Housekeeper may require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Housekeeper possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Washes linens, garments, drapes and other articles; places load of similar articles in drum of washer and adjusts valves to admit water of proper temperature.
Determines and adds soap solution, bleach and other chemicals as necessary; starts drum rotating and stops machine after articles have been washed and rinsed.
Transfers washed clothing to baskets to be taken to dryer; damp-dries clothes in dryer.
Irons garments; adjusts heat of iron to proper temperature for fabric being pressed preventing scorching of material.
Transfers finished garments to hanger; folds and stacks garments to resident rooms.
