Job Summary
This position classifies staff positions campus wide as part of a classification team, determining appropriate civil service classification or exemption from civil service classification.
As part of the IHR Classification team. the Classification Analyst classifies staff positions across campus, determining appropriate civil service classification (or exemption from classification).
Position Classification - 50%

Conduct job analyses to determine the appropriate classification or exemption category for positions.

Perform cyclic review of academic professional job descriptions to ensure the job content is appropriate for the exemption category at least once every three years; make changes to positions based on this review.

Assist with the analysis, establishment, and revision of job families/progressions, particularly with civil service custom classifications.

Advise hiring departments on the appropriate job structure, classification, job title, or appropriate exemption category criteria for positions.

Provide direction to departments in the development of job descriptions

Independently develop new (and revise existing) job descriptions in compliance with civil service class specifications and exemption procedures/categories, as well as IHR requirements.

Respond to inquiries from employees or other departmental personnel relating to classification policies, processes, and procedures.

Assist with the Civil Service Classification/Exam Modification process, including the development of new and existing civil service classification specifications.

Participate as a member of a Matrix Team serving a dedicated set of customers, as assigned.
Staff Appointment Changes (Promotions) - 40%

Conduct position reviews or audits for current academic professional and civil service employees.

Review, analyze, classify, and approve job descriptions in promotional workflows.

Advise departments on promotional opportunities for positions and incumbents classified as either civil service or academic professional.

Collaborate with the Classification Team to develop reference materials and job aids for campus units, particularly for progressions or growth within a classification.
Data Analysis, Reporting, and Documentation - 5%

Research, compile, and analyze information and data for periodic/recurring reports related to IHR Classification & Compensation activities and State Universities Civil Service System Compliance Audits.

Update and maintain accurate information in databases, electronic records, and HR Systems.
Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

• Sedentary office work. • Management of work assignments to meet deadlines may require working overtime.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
- Two years of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties in an academic, corporate, or staffing agency environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong attention to details to ensure accuracy and compliance in classification processes, data entry into HR systems, communication of information, and required recordkeeping.
- Strong analytical and interpretive skills.
- Ability to develop new or revise job descriptions.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to interpret and summarize information in a clear manner.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong time management, multitasking, and organizational skills to adapt to ever changing workloads and deadlines.

Success in the position requires working independently, being a self-learner to increase knowledge and develop expertise with job responsibilities, demonstrating initiative, working as a team member, and managing frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 7/5/2023. Salary is commensurate with experience.
