Resort Engineer and HVAC Technician

  • Position Summary:

    As a Resort Engineer at Edgewood Tahoe, you are responsible for the overall upkeep and repair of the Edgewood Tahoe Resort. You proactively inspecting and repairing areas of the building’s exterior HVAC roof top units, boilers/chillers, public areas, fitness center, kitchens and guest rooms. In this particular role, your trade focus is maintaining our HVAC systems. There is a large amount of guest service needed as you respond and resolve any guest issues with great communication and skills.     Essential Functions:
    • Install, maintain and repair ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.
    • Identifying maintenance risks on equipment.
    • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems.
    • Clean, adjust and repair systems.
    • Perform emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
    • Provide technical direction and on-the-job training.
    • Keep daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.
    • Ensure compliance with appliance standards and with Occupational Health and Safety Act.
    • Keep all equipment in good repair with a minimum of downtime by providing day to day maintenance and repairs.
    • Continually support and improve engineering services that effectively address problems affecting both guests and associates.
    • Be willing to train and instruct other members by passing along knowledge and skills to assist them in their development and the advancement of your own.
    • Respond to room calls, using proper entrance procedure. Make repairs.
    • Troubleshoot and repair AC/heating malfunctions, electrical outages, timers, thermostats, electrical switches, circuit breakers. Replace and dispose of HVAC filters.
    • Monitor Fire Alarm/Life Safety systems as necessary, be fully informed of the system operation and able to handle emergencies. Be knowledge of fire sprinkler and emergency power systems.
    • Observe energy and utilities usage in the hotel and on the grounds. Look for ways to conserve energy.
    • Clean, lubricate, protect and otherwise maintain all tools and equipment in the hotel. Secure in proper storage area.
    • Act in an engineering capacity to protect our guest and team members in an emergency situation, and preserve the building and its systems during the emergency. Act as quickly and responsibly as possible to return the building to its normal operating status.
    • Be aware of all existing departmental Job Safety Analysis. Strive to work in an accident-free manner. Create a safe work environment for others. Take immediate action to correct any hazardous conditions found.
    • Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

    Qualifications / Special Skills:
    • 5 years’ experience as an Engineer at a Hotel/resort preferred.
    • Guest service background preferred.
    • Understand advanced principles of air conditioning, refrigeration and heating.
    • Working knowledge of boiler systems.
    • Proficient in balancing air and water treatment systems in line with HVAC protocols.
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficient in reading schematics and work plans.
    • Ability to work in confined spaces.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills needed.
    • Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules (i.e., Lockout Tagout, JSAs), Safety Awareness information (such as SDS) operating and maintenance procedures. Ability to write routine logs and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to guest and other associates.
    • Available to work varied shifts when needed, including weekends, holidays, and nights.
