HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. HVAC Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanic

    As an HVAC Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanic, you will perform a variety of routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration system components according to a prescribed set of instructions as well as monitoring system operation and performance within DGS owned or managed facilities. Work also includes responding to requests or alarms during shifts after hours and collaborating with other facility personnel.
     
    You will be expected to access, navigate, and monitor building automation systems including Automated Logic, Johnson Controls, Delta, and Siemens to monitor equipment performance, receive alarm messages, and provide proper notifications. A supervisor will be available to guide situations that may have a significant impact on operations.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

    • Full-time employment
    • Work hours are 7.5-hour per day with a 30-minute lunch, Monday – Friday. Possible shifts include 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. 
    • 24/7 Operation & Essential employee – This position is required to report to work during emergencies and office closings.
    • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

    • Two years of experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems, units, and equipment; or  
    • Completion of a three-year Vo-Tech training program in refrigeration, HVAC, or building automation and six months experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration systems, related digitally controlled equipment, or BA systems; or 
    • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes one year of experience in the maintenance, repair, or installation of HVAC or refrigeration equipment.

    Special Requirements:

    • You must obtain EPA Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification from an approved provider within 6 months of employment.
    • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.

     

    Additional Requirements: 

    • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

     

    Preferred Qualifications (not required): 

    • Two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, or repair of HVAC systems.
    • Experience utilizing Building Automation Systems for the purposes of monitoring and adjusting HVAC equipment performance.
    • Experience troubleshooting chillers, boilers, or automation systems.
    • An associates degree in HVAC, Refrigeration, Building Automation Systems, or closely related field.
