HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Primary Function: Responsible for installing, operating and maintaining all heating, ventilation and cooling systems in the hospital.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
-Maintain proper temperatures and ventilation throughout the hospital. Maintain all control systems (electric and pneumatic) for AHU and chillers.
-Assure all medical gases are maintained at proper pressures. Test heating and cooling water and add chemicals as needed.
-Conduct preventative maintenance necessary to maintain all equipment. Repair any equipment that is not operating properly.
- Install all new equipment including duct installations and piping medical gases.
-Perform all other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications: Vocational/technical training and a minimum of five years job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI Refrigeration License is also required.
