GENERAL PURPOSE
The position of Mechanical Designer provides the skills necessary to maintain and improve the design of existing PHOENIX equipment product line, as well as needed support in new equipment development and project execution-related efforts.
NATURE OF THE POSITION
The Mechanical Designer provides fabrication packages, component descriptions, and bills of materials that define the PHOENIX product in sufficient detail for subcontractors to manufacture and assemble the product in a manner that assures operational parameters and project requirements are met, including quality and workmanship requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
WEIGHT RESPONSIBILITY
50% 1. Provide error-free fabrication packages so fabricators can cost-effectively manufacture and assemble PHOENIX products to meet the customer's and company's requirements. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare, check, and deliver complete fabrication and assembly drawing packages to subcontracted fabricators electronically and in hard copy as required.
- Maintain necessary drawing revisions throughout the course of the project and delivering to the applicable parties in a timely manner. Revisions to standard equipment drawings are to be similarly maintained.
- Adhere to project schedules to ensure project timelines are met.
- Consistently communicate with suppliers, vendors, fabricators, and
PHOENIX personnel to ensure that all equipment and component drawings are accurate and up to date.
25% 2. Participate in the continued development and ongoing maintenance of 2D drawing and 3D model databases of standard product line and project- specific equipment.
10% 3. Provide assistance to the Project Manager in the timely and cost-effective completion of projects.
5% 4. Provide component/material selection and specifications to allow
Purchasing to procure project/product required items that meet project requirements.
5% 5. Provide equipment layout drawings for use by Sales Managers to explain equipment systems to prospective customers.
5% 6. Perform administrative functions such as preparing reports, developing and providing general company support.
KNOW-HOW
Requires a minimum of 5 years of mechanical design within an equipment, systems, or facilities design environment. Extensive AutoDesk Inventor and AutoCAD experience is a must. Oral and written communications and people skills are essential. Working knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office applications a plus.
PROBLEM SOLVING
The major challenge of this position is to complete a design on schedule, within budget and in accordance with project requirements and specifications. The Mechanical
Designer must identify the actions required to meet this challenge and initiate activity to assure accomplishment.
WORK REQUIREMENTS
Days and hours of work are approximately Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with the ability to work outside of business hours from time to time as required by
PHOENIX.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Mechanical Designer is accountable for his/her design decisions, quality of work and their impact on the product costs and product performance. The position is directly accountable for his/her personal safety, the image that the customer has of PHOENIX, and for performing all assigned duties in a thorough and professional manner.
