R&D Engineer 2 $101,700 - $168,200 You will perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- Contribute to the research, design, testing, analysis, verification, and validation of engineering and technology solutions in support of AMPP-6 R&D and operations initiatives.
- Collaborate with other professionals to develop new methods, technologies, and analysis techniques for institutional programs and process improvements for existing operations.[ZAK1] [LH2]
- Use drafting software to design parts, work with machine shops and purchasing orgs to realize design changes as assigned.
- Hands-On participation in nuclear facility processes as necessary for fundamental process knowledge and continuous improvement.
- Independently present specific aspects of engineering assignments at project meetings to coworkers and management personnel.
- Adapt to evolving R&D requirements while meeting safety, security, compliance, and schedule imperatives.
- Actively engage and collaborate with multidisciplinary groups throughout the laboratory.
- Participate in professional development and mentorship.
- Develop and review technical procedures to ensure quality work is performed in a safe and secure manner.
- Promote configuration management by establishing consistency among design requirements, physical configuration, and documentation for assigned processes.
- Ensure operational reliability through rigorous process system maintenance, i.e., reviewing and developing maintenance protocols to track trends, history and establish methods for post maintenance testing.
What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:
Engineering Experience: Demonstrated experience performing a broad range of complex engineering, including experience designing a complete project, system, or component through work experience.
Manufacturing & Component Testing: Knowledge of manufacturing and component testing operations (e.g. mechanical testing, machining, and component assembly).
Project Development: Demonstrated experience in design; planning; and executing research and development projects. Experience with continuous improvement concepts and tools.
Problem Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to recognize and define technical problems, measure variables, analyze the problem, implement and validate solutions, and control process.
Technical Accomplishments: Must have a strong record of technical accomplishments (provide examples) and 3 to 5 years of technical experience within a professional work environment.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2: Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related science, 2 years of job related experience and 1 year of nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications: - Demonstrated knowledge or experience working in a manufacturing or production organization requiring implementation of defined manufacturing, testing, and quality requirements.
- Knowledge and experience with system and subsystem qualification testing and/or analysis.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Conduct of Operations.
- Willingness to take initiative on new tasks or projects.
- Design to manufacturing experience.
- Technical writing consisting of project proposals, technical research, and summary presentations.
- Active HRP certification.
- Active DOE Q clearance.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
