POSITION: Emergency Rental Assistance Program Prevention Specialist
POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Salaried Position, At-Will, Not to exceed one year: Exempt Position
REPORTS TO: Homeless Prevention Manager
LOCATION: 920A Rhode Island Avenue NE WDC 20018
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide homeless prevention assistance and identify housing resources for District residents in need. Screen and process Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) applications on a daily basis for District of Columbia residents who are qualified for rental assistance.
SALARY: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 (Depending on Experience)
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Assign cases directly from the Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) portal (.Net)
- Screen and process Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) applications in 45 days of assignment
- Assign a minimum of 66 cases per month
- Complete review of a minimum of 66 cases per month
- Retain all required applicant documents in TCP’s electronic filing system as directed
- Answer questions via phone, e-mail and/or in person
- Follow up with applicant and applicant’s landlord as needed and necessary to obtain sufficient information to process application
- Enter required data and information into the ERAP .Net system
- Generate check requests for ERAP applicants through TCP’s database
- Prepare for, attend and participate in Office of Administrative Hearings, administrative reviews, and/or status conferences for all assigned matters
- Other duties as assigned, as deemed appropriate
MANDATORY REQUIRMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in social work/human services or experience commensurate with education: homeless services experience a plus
- Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent communication skills, to include ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally to a wide range of audiences (customers, co-workers, managers, the public, stakeholders, etc.) face-to-face, virtually, or via telephone or other communication devices to elicit information
- Perform responsibilities with the required customer service standards
- Excellent listening skills to be able to construe information extracted from customers
- Ability to be patient, pleasant, courteous, and maintain professionalism
- Ability to make decisions independently, consistent with law and established procedures
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite or similar suites, inclusive of using Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the use of database systems
- Ability to manage documents and maintain records
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks at the same time
- Ability to conduct self-directed work as well as function well as part of a team
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment while still paying great attention to details
- Ability to perform basic mathematics, sufficient to perform simple calculations and interpret data
- Ability to work as scheduled and/or required
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, operate a computer keyboard and handle paper documents
- Ability to enter data and/or information into a computer
- Ability to understand written and/or oral instructions
- Ability to read a computer screen and printed materials with or without vision aids
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs and reach overhead
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
