Environmental Technician
Job Description
The Environmental Technician shall be responsible for the coordination of the environmental issues detailed below. Shall ensure the site remains in compliance with local, State, and Federal environmental regulations. For estimation purposes, can assume no more than 14 rotational units per year (7 days per week).
Role and Responsibilities
- Receive and properly collect, segregate, containerize, label, transport and dispose of hazardous waste, hazardous material, Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants (POL) products and restricted items turned in or generated by the rotational units.
- Issue spill kits, secondary containments, grey water totes, and drums to rotational units.
- Respond to rotational unit spills and oversee the management and handling of any and all spill media; and provide support for the development of Corrective Action Plans, as required.
- Receive and test lithium batteries by placing them on a State-of-Charge tester (up to 10,000 annually), reissue batteries that have a charge greater than 70% to the incoming rotation. The Contractor will be responsible for maintaining and replacing battery testing equipment.
- Conduct an environmental pre-clearance inspection at the end of each rotation and provide a deficiency list to the rotational unit.
- Attend and brief up to 60 rotational unit briefings to detail environmental concerns and develop corrective action/response plans to address these concerns.
- Conduct daily inventory of restricted items and Class V munitions removed from the solid waste. Send daily report of Class V munitions removed to Fort Polk CTC Program Manager.
- The Contractor shall provide environmental compliance support, supplies and equipment to the 8300 Block Consolidated Waste Facility and rotational troops training at Fort Polk to ensure the program remains in compliance with LDEQs regulations on Hazardous Material and Waste Management, Spill Response Support, and Recycling.
- Develop, implement, and maintain an environmental awareness training program.
- Develop environmental awareness brochures and posters for installation-wide distribution.
- Coordinate environmental efforts, actions, issues, and requirements clarification and assistance within ENRMD and with other installation organizations as required. Conduct command briefings on the status of JRTC and Fort Polk environmental compliance status. Collect and document environmental data as required to meet DA and IMCOM environmental tracking and reporting requirements.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- High school degree, GED required
- Knowledge and experience conducting technical environmental support
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Anticipated Changes/new requirements
Requirements for working on a military installation
- Pass a government background investigation and maintain requirements for keeping a Common Access Card (CAC) and Information Technology (IT) access. Attend required government training and send copies of training records to the Sol Human Resources Manager.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license if required to travel or operate government vehicles or equipment.
- Properly maintain Sol and government furnished equipment and vehicles and immediately report loss or damage to your Sol Supervisor.
- Follow installation policies and procedures and immediately report any non-compliance to your Sol Supervisor.
- Identify yourself as a contractor in telephone and email correspondence and in meetings. Do not represent yourself as a government employee nor conduct tasks that are “inherently governmental”.
- Do not allow yourself to be supervised by a government employee and report any government supervision to your Sol Supervisor.
