Instructor - History teaches courses in the discipline area of history. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - History provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - History typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     The Palmer Museum of History and Art (PMHA) is hiring for an Executive Director (ED). The ED is the Chief Executive Officer of PMHA, is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives, and reports to the PMHA Board of Directors. This position will begin immediately upon hire or negotiated time.

    PMHA is a small 501(c)3 nonprofit, contracting with the City of Palmer to provide museum and visitor center services for the Greater Palmer Area. PMHA is based in a City-owned small log cabin in downtown Palmer. Per contracts with the City, PMHA is open daily May 1 through the Tuesday following Labor Day, and on reduced hours for the remainder of the year.

    MAJOR DUTIES

    The ideal candidate will be an effective administrator, advocate, and organizer for the Palmer Museum and Visitor Information Center. Duties include:

    1. Represent the organization to agencies, organizations, and the general public.

    2. Oversees budget, financial management and fundraising.

    • Work with the Board to prepare the PMHA operating and programming budget.
    • Work with PMHA’s accountant to prepare / review annual, quarterly, and monthly reports to the City of Palmer, State of Alaska, and IRS as required.
    • Leads efforts to maintain and grow PMHA financial health.

    3. Employees

    • Manage and supervise a PMHA staff, including hiring temporary summer employees.

    4. Manages Visitor Information Center

    • Provide accurate and engaging information to visitors and residents about Palmer history and visitor attractions.

    5. Museum Programs and Oversight

    • Promotes the art Palmer history for visitors and the Palmer community and ensures the safe keeping of the collections and artifacts.

    6. Membership

    • Engage and grow the PMHA membership base and community footprint.

    7. Other

    • Work with the City of Palmer to ensure the museum and visitor center grounds are kept clean, welcoming.,

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    The ideal candidate will possess:

    1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in business, museum studies, or related fields.

    2. Financial management skills and experience.

    3. A passion for nonprofit work.

    4. Confident in navigating complex responsibilities.

    5. Strong communication and computer skills.

    6. Understanding working with a Board of Directors.

    WORK SCHEDULE

    This is a full time, 35 hours per week position, working in person at the museum and visitor center.

    COMPENSATION

    Compensation to be negotiated, includes 105 hours PTO, and five paid holidays.
