Duties and ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, teach Fundamentals of Baking and a variety of other program courses including but not limited to Introduction to the Culinary Industry, Sanitation and Safety, Menu Planning and Merchandising, Dining Room Operations, Purchasing and Cost Control, Human Resources Management, and Culinary Externship.Plan, organize and manage the day-to-day cleaning and maintenance of kitchen labs, equipment and supplies. Plan, organize and participate in campus, program, and industry extra-curricular activities. Related work activities include but are not limited to advising/counseling students; assisting in campus-related activities; participating in faculty/administrative committees, community service, and in-service training; maintaining an approved program of professional self-improvement; collecting data, preparing/adapting/revising/ assessing course objectives for credit and/or non-credit courses, distance education and off-campus instruction; independently planning, organizing, and carrying out instructional and non-instructional assignments; conducting course assessment and other assessment of instruction based on student learning outcomes; and improving student learning based on results of assessment data. Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s in Culinary Arts and 3 years related work experience which may include professional training; OR Associate degree in Culinary Arts and 5 years related work experience which may include professional training; OR 15 college credits in Culinary Arts and 7 years related work experience which may include professional training; OR Master recognition by Culinary Arts community and 10 years related work experience. Note: Minimum qualifications (degrees and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment. Desirable QualificationsSolid foundation and experience in fundamental principles, techniques, and skills of basic baking including yeast doughs, quick breads, artisan breads, basic syrups, creams and sauces, pies, pastries, cakes, and cookies, custards, puddings, mousses and soufflés, chocolate and sugar techniques, plated desserts and presentation techniques. Working experience in a professional bakeshop as a Pastry Sous Chef or a higher position.Experience in teaching courses or workshops related to baking and/or pastry arts. Possess effective written and oral communication skills. Possess effective interpersonal organizational and management skills. Experience in the use of technology for teaching such as online collaboration tools, presentation software, and course management tools. Demonstrated effectiveness to be able to function independently and as a member of a team.Culinary Arts teaching experience (preferably at the post-secondary level).Understanding of and experience working with a diverse student population, including students with disabilities and students from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
