Instructor - Liberal Arts teaches courses in the discipline area of liberal arts. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Liberal Arts provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Liberal Arts typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research. The duties include but are not limited to:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have an appropriate Alabama teaching certification in Family and Consumer Science, OR
Must have a Current License and/or Certification in Culinary Arts from the food service industry (e.g., American Culinary Federation, etc.), AND
Three (3) years of verified work experience as a chef, dietitian, baker, or kitchen manager.
MUST HAVE seven (7) years of full-time work experience (within the last ten years) in the field of Culinary Arts; OR Regionally accredited postsecondary certificate/diploma program in culinary plus five (5) years of full-time work experience immediately prior to hiring; OR Regionally accredited postsecondary Associate's degree program in culinary plus three (3) years of full-time work experience within the last seven years prior to employment.
Must have passed or pass within the first year of employment the NOTII Proficiency Exam for Culinary Arts (Commercial Foods 5167) and the Alabama Educator Certification Testing Program (AECTP) which includes the basic skills assessment of Workplace Docuements, Business Writing, and Applied Math. If the applicant has a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university the basic skills assessment is not required. Expense of exams are borne by the applicant/teacher.
