Intellectual Property Patent Paralegal/Specialist

Location: Kalamazoo, MI; Ann Arbor, MI; Bloomfield Hills, MI; Lansing, MI; Grand Rapids, MI; Chicago, IL; Washington, D.C.

Schedule: Hybrid/4 days in office for the first 6 months, then 3 days in office and 2 days remote

The Opportunity: We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Intellectual Property Patent Paralegal/Specialist to join a prestigious law firm. This role will support a range of patent-related tasks, from gathering preliminary technical information and monitoring patent deadlines to managing domestic and foreign patent activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate domestic and international patent filings with the USPTO and foreign law offices.
• Maintain a docket system for due dates, including responses, renewals, and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) requirements.
• Prepare and file documents with the USPTO or foreign counsel.
• Handle patent assignments, correspondence, and status summary reports.
• Review and act on correspondence from foreign associates.
• Conduct research and compile information on national and international patent rights.

What We’re Looking For:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal certification preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in patent law, with a strong grasp of U.S. and foreign patent processes.
• Skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, and research databases like Innovation, PATTSY, and Lexis/Nexis.
• Attributes: Exceptional organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to handle high volumes of work independently.
• Personal Qualities: Strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and a commitment to professionalism and continuous learning.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
