Staff Internal Auditor

Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the Director of Auditing Services, the Staff Internal Auditor performs various types of financial, compliance, and operational audits of University functional areas, departments, and activities in accordance with professional auditing standards. Under the supervision of the Director or a Senior Auditor, the Staff Internal Auditor evaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of accounting and management procedures, internal controls, and assesses compliance with university policies and external laws and regulations. In addition, the Internal Auditor may periodically be assigned to assist with investigations of employee ethics violations, misappropriation of public funds, and misuse of public resources. At the request of management, the Staff Internal Auditor may be assigned to perform or assist in evaluating the impact of changes in information and operational systems of the University, and may participate in University ad hoc special projects and committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree with a major in accounting, finance, information systems, economics, or other similar business major.
- Demonstrated work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, business office or retail management, or a similar business environment.
- Proficiency and experience with computer applications such as Excel, Access, and Microsoft Word.
Proficiency in verbal and written communications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Enrolled in or completion of a Masters degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems or similar business area.
- Pending application for or completion of a relevant professional certification such as CIA, CPA, CFE, CMA, or CGFM
- Experience working in higher education or governmental environment.
