    THE COLLEGE

    Located in the northwest corner of the United States, Peninsula College is nestled in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains. The main campus in Port Angeles, Washington, overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the nearby city of Victoria, British Columbia, and has easy access to the Pacific Ocean, Olympic National Park, and Seattle. Port Angeles is two hours from Seattle and a one-hour ferry ride to Victoria, Canada. The College is honored to serve six sovereign American Indian nations in the region: Jamestown S’Klallam, Lower Elwha Klallam, Quileute, Makah, Hoh, and Port Gamble S’Klallam.

    The College is honored to have strong relationships with these six federally recognized Tribes in the College’s service district. The College is home to Longhouse of Learning. It is the first Longhouse in the nation to be built on a community College campus. The College offers transferable Indigenous language courses in Klallam/S’Klallam, Makah and Quileute and Hoh languages. Instructional programs include a Tribal Homeland Security & Emergency Management certificate and an Integrated Indigenous Studies transfer pathway.     THE POSITION

    Under general supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Communications Specialist produces social media content and assists in creating and reviewing marketing materials and communications. The Communications Specialist ensures continuity, accuracy, and branding standards across college social platforms.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Communications and Marketing

    • Collaborates on development and implementation of marketing strategies and digital advertising campaigns to increase enrollment and brand awareness and drive traffic to the college website.
    • Assist with writing and editing content for general communications materials, including newsletters, web communications, blog posts, and press releases.
    • Review, proofread, and edit a variety of written materials from individuals and departments to ensure accuracy, effectiveness, clarity, and adherence to brand standards. Rewrite material as necessary to create a cohesive unifying voice for the college.
    • Identify stories for promotion in internal and external publications.
    • Designs basic graphics using Canva and/or Adobe tools.
    • Perform graphic design review, including Canva approvals, to ensure designs meet PC brand guidelines.
    • Assist with student and graduate interviews, photography, and videography as needed.

    Social Media

    • Content Creation: Planning, creation, and editing of written, video, and photo content that is engaging and effectively reaches the College’s target audiences.
    • Creates digital graphics such as banners, custom images, icons, ads and photos for daily social media content and campaigns.
    • Attend school events, take photos, and post timely content on social media.
    • Collaborate in developing content with students and employees across campus.
    • Responsible for monitoring, developing, and administering social media content designed to engage users and create an interactive relationship between various audiences and the College.
    • Maintain unified brand voice across different social media channels.
    • Design templates for students and employees.
    • Evaluation and Reporting: Monitor effective benchmarks for measuring impact of social media campaigns.
    • Produce metrics to measure the success of social media content.
    • Develop and deliver performance reports to Director of Marketing and Communications.
    • Maintain database of all college social media accounts.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Knowledge of and experience in the use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, SnapChat, TikTok, to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
    • Experience with design software and applications including but not limited to Adobe Photoshop, Canva, CapCut, etc.
    • Understanding of analytics and measuring social media engagement.
    • Knowledge of trends and best practices in social media and digital engagement.
    • Advanced proficiency in MS Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Familiar with AP Style.
    • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
    • Photography and videography skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Highly organized and self-motivated.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Demonstrate attention to detail, manage multiple tasks, plan and organize work to meet changing priorities, tight timelines and deadlines, and high client expectations.
    • Ability to work calmly and professionally under deadlines.
    • Ability to work occasional evenings and/or weekends and to travel within the service area.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
    • Time management and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Represent the college in a positive and professional manner.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Peninsula College’s values, mission, equity, and a learning-centered climate.
    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or or one year of experience with marketing, promotion or communication, and demonstrated ability with social media platforms.

    EMPLOYMENT PAY AND BENEFITS INFORMATION

    • Full-Time Exempt position
    • Annual Salary Range: $58,000.00 – $64,000.00
    • Anticipated starting monthly salary: $4,833.00

    Full Time Employee Benefits:

Peninsula College contributes $1,145 per month towards the cost of the Washington State employee insurance programs. The college also supports professional development.

    • Full-time employees are eligible to apply and participate in the Peninsula College Employee Tuition Program.
    • Sick leave accrual is 8 hours per month.
    • Vacation Leave accrual is 16 hours per month.
