Job Title: Applied Data Science Manager
Job Duties: Manage and lead a team of applied data scientists to distill complex problems into compelling insights, using the best of dunnhumby science, and make recommendations that resonate with clients and lead them to action. Work with Client Leads to develop an annual client work plan tailored to their business needs and overarching business strategy. Manage and allocate resources and people to maximize productivity and deliver measurable and timely results. Help the team to build strong relationships with internal contacts & external clients to ensure a full understanding of client challenges, their growth strategy, and agreed measures of success for the project. Promote a culture of re-use of dunnhumby science, modules, and code lines over re-invention, utilizing the most appropriate tool for project delivery. Manage the team of Applied Data Scientists to deploy data science algorithms and market products on chosen tech stack for efficient and cost-effective delivery. Manage and lead the team to transform complex problems into compelling insights for clients, aligning it with their growth strategy and influencing them toward action. Spot opportunities to grow client engagement by proactively solving client’s strategic questions, using a mix of products and advanced data science techniques that support executive decision-making and call to action. Participate in client meetings, as required, to present methodology and solutions through effective storytelling techniques and help influence client decision making. Work closely with the global products team to provide market feedback for enhancing an existing product offering or augmenting the catalogue with a market-based product that can become a global offering. Own the design, delivery, and IP of market solutions and products, managing the life-cycle of all versions of the local product from inception, design, build, test, and deployment for a local client. Ensure the team is following dunnhumby Quality Assurance processes, ways of working, and coding standards. Hire, mentor, motivate and retain a strong team of applied data scientists who live the dunnhumby values. Manage risk effectively, provide visible and consistent leadership on Values and Code of Business Conduct and act where you see issues. Protect our team by ensuring they have the skills and training needed, including completing Service Level Specification (SLS). This position supervises 5 Data Scientists.
Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (or foreign educational equivalent) in Mathematics, Economics, Applied Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field, plus 2 years of experience in all of the following: managing a team of junior data scientists in ad-hoc projects, including project scope, methodology, deliverables, and client utilization; Retail Consulting with a focus on Consumer Package Goods; Data Science and Retail Consulting role; researching, designing, and deploying various forms of statistical models and machine learning applications, including the use of multiple techniques across classification, regression, and clustering; programming in Spark, SQL, and Python; Python Science packages: Sklearn, Scikit-Learn, Numpy, Pandas, Sympy; data visualization skills in Power BI, Voila, Tableau, and Excel; working with very large and unstructured datasets (100M records); customer analytics in a retail or CPG environment, solving real-world business problems; Quality Assurance and Testing (Development and Production); and applying specific knowledge of Price Investment Models, Customers Shopping Habits Clustering, Promotion Effectiveness Analyses, Customer Churn Prediction Models, A/B Testing, Offer Pool Building, Product Relevancy, Targeted Communications, Category Adjacencies Tools, Price Sensitivity Segmentation, Customer Shopping Mission Clustering, Shelf Out Of Stock detection.
