    GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION    

     

    Job Developers and Placement Specialist work directly with participants with disabilities as part of the Rehabilitation Team. This position involves working with participants to build pre-employment skills, including creating a resume, cover letter, references, completing a sample application and training on effective interview skills. They work directly with participants to complete job applications and intervene with employers as needed to reach the ultimate goal of securing employment.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS  

     

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, human resource development, or related field preferred.

     

    Other:

    • Two to four years’ experience in job seeking skills instruction, job placement and job development. 
    • Communication skills sufficient to interact with participants, staff funding sources, employers and public.
    • Proficiency in American Sign Language preferred.
    • Composition skills sufficient to prepare required reports.
    • Driving record must meet safe driving standards as established by Agency insurance carrier.
    • Valid Michigan driver’s license.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Complete an intake assessment with each participant including functional skills, interests support systems and transportation availability, to determine if participant is an appropriate candidate for Supportive Job Search.
    • Utilize placement and job development techniques to develop work sites, including assessing work sites utilizing appropriate forms and procedures, restructuring and adaptive devices. Match participants with job sites.
    • Develop and maintain productive relationships with employers.
    • Assist participants to develop effective job seeking skills; including completing applications, writing resumes, practicing job interviewing techniques, job retention skills and other related skills, both individually and in a group setting. Supervise job club participant’s self-directed job search.
    • Provide ongoing service coordination, follow-along support, training, advocacy and referral services to participants now competitively employed and related support services to co-workers and employers.
    • Provide group and individual supportive services including job preparation workshops, job seeking and job retention skills.
    • Perform case coordination duties for a specified caseload of pre and post-placement participants which include:
      1. Develop, implement, review and monitor comprehensive plans of service which delineate goals, interventions, outcomes and responsibilities.
      2. Provide proactive case coordination services to ensure each participant’s receipt of integrated, coordinated service delivery in vocational, as well as any other areas impacting vocational success. This includes a follow-up with consumer after one week and 20, 60, 90, 180 days of employment.
      3. Maintain participant master file and ensure timely compliance by generating ongoing service notes, weekly, monthly, and quarterly documents on participant’s progress, in accordance with CARF, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Department of Mental Health Standards.
      4. Establish and maintain cooperative and outcome-oriented relationships with consumers, staff from all program components, outside professionals and employers.
    • Complete weekly reports and comprehensive narratives as required.
    • Complete data entry tasks utilizing the Agency DARTS system.
    • Transport participants using own vehicle, provide mobility training, and/or coordinate transportation arrangement for participants as needed.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

     

    Environmental conditions:

    • Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
    • Ability to work in a confined area.
    • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.

     

    Physical requirements:

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
    • Light to moderate lifting in required.

    This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime pay in accordance with the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act.
