Job Summary
Work closely with the USM Marine Science faculty on the continued
development of an ocean data collection system in the Mississippi Bight region
with a focus on developing capabilities for autonomous platforms to repetitively
map the seafloor and water column parameters. The successful candidate will
work under the mobile bathymetry and water column data collection system task
of the project titled “High-Resolution Coastal Test Area Sensor and Model
Development.” The project aims to improve the predictive capability of coastal
ocean models supported by real-time observations of key coastal environmental
variables.
The research topic includes real-time survey planning onboard the autonomous
platform, developing and executing autonomous data collection missions, new
data processing techniques for bathymetric and water column data collected with
multi-frequency multibeam sonars. The
successful candidate will have the opportunity to present research findings at
scientific conferences, meetings, and workshops. Publish articles in scientific
journals and contribute to and write new funding proposals.
