    Job Description:
    This classification level is responsible for the supervision of the highest risk to re-offend clients under the authority of the Chief Probation Officer and licensed as a Mental Health Practitioner, Clinical Social Worker, or Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Responsibilities may include evaluating probationer needs and matching to the appropriate treatment modality or service, i.e., substance abuse, mental health, medical, housing, employment and educational services, etc.; developing and providing case management and supervision of probationers activities in the community; collaborates with providers and stakeholders important to the success of probationers and the vision and mission of the State Probation System. This position has the same statutory authority and responsibilities as a probation officer in addition to the treatment responsibilities.

    JOB DUTIES
    Supervises adult and/or juvenile probationers with the highest risk to re-offend by facilitating case staffing with probation staff to confirm proper classification, assessing special needs, and developing ongoing case plans to ensure all criminogenic factors are being addressed throughout the probationary period. Performs counseling, case management, case reporting, and related functions of managing a caseload under general supervision. Supervises probationers/defendants through office visits to verify compliance with court-ordered conditions; schedules office meetings; creates collateral contacts with treatment providers to monitor compliance. Conduct various trainings for probation staff within the district e.g. motivational interviewing, youth level of service, suicide prevention, and crisis management. Performs risk assessments to determine proper supervision level of client; recommends incentives and/or sanctions based on assessment; monitors drug screens. Monitors treatment process of clients and is engaged in the clients’ treatment through regular and on-going communication with treatment providers and through attendance at treatment groups and facilities. Develops relapse prevention plans. Acts as a subject matter expert within district; provides guidance to lower level staff regarding challenging or unique cases. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. The above classification responsibilities represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.

    REQUIREMENTS
    Bachelor’s degree in social services, criminal justice or directly related field; and 6 years of experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
    All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

    Customer service principles; Supervisory principles; Social Learning Theory, Criminal Thinking, Stages of Change principles; Criminal Justice system, laws, legal codes, and court procedures; Interview and Assessment procedures and practices; Intervention policies and procedures; Signs of various forms of abuse, mental health issues, or neglect; Mental health providers specializations; Crisis intervention techniques; Recordkeeping principles; Document review techniques; Computers and related software applications; Making home-visits; Interviewing probationers; Tracking probationers’ location(s); Cognitive restructuring; Utilizing probation and protective techniques; Applying applicable laws, rules, and regulations; Preparing activity reports and updating databases; Operating computers and applicable software applications; Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
    Incumbents may be subjected to environmental threats, odors, dusts, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and travel.
    Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
