Summary

We are looking for an experienced a Molecular Microbiology Supervisor for our growing Lab. The Molecular Microbiology Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision of testing and testing personnel during operations and daily functions. The Molecular Microbiology Supervisor performs high-complexity molecular testing. The Molecular Microbiology Supervisor works under the supervision of the CLIA Laboratory Director.

JOB SUMMARY

Onsite supervises the day to day operations of a laboratory. Possesses the administrative and technical skills to supervise personnel and coordinate operations, organize and improve workflow for the division, and communicate with staff, management, and senior leadership.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Coordinates the daily operations and workload activities for the laboratory. Compiles workload and budget reports as directed.
• Performs high-complexity molecular testing and technical duties as necessary to support completion of daily work
• Maintains proficiency and competency in performance for the testing menu of the laboratory.
• Responsible for assisting with recruitment, hiring, orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, disciplinary action and/or termination process of divisional employees.
• Coordinates, evaluates, and verifies documentation of orientation, training/competency, supervision, and mentoring of employees, students as appropriate for their role in the laboratory. Coordinates continuing education programs and verifies documentation for departmental and personnel records.
• Reviews, revises, and updates policies and procedures in accordance with required regulatory, departmental, and accreditation standards.
• Responsible for compliance with regulatory accreditation standards.
• Assists in the development, evaluation, or implementation of all new procedures, reagents, systems, and instruments for use in the division. Coordinates development of written procedures, training of personnel, and documentation of competency prior to reporting patient results. Significant changes to existing procedures require a similar process.
• Reviews and evaluates quality of reported test results, quality control and equipment maintenance procedures, proficiency testing and verifies appropriate documentation is maintained and corrective actions are implemented as necessary.
• Coordinates supply needs.
• Participates in the establishment, implementation and ongoing monitoring of the quality assurance and total quality monitoring program including quality monitors, incident reports, corrective actions, and documentation.
• Communicates pertinent information to staff members, management, medical directors, and other divisions.
• Additional duties as assigned by the CLIA laboratory director.

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in biological, chemical or physical science with 6 years of clinical laboratory experience
• NYS Department of Education license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist
• ASCP certification preferred
• Excellent communication skills
• Problem solving skills

EQUIPMENT

Standard laboratory and office equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION

Standard laboratory environment; potential exposure to blood borne pathogens, chemical, radiation, electrical, and fire hazards.

OTHER DUTIES

Specific job requirement or physical location of some positions allocated to the classification, may render this position security sensitive, and thereby require personnel to adhere to HIPAA guidelines and patient safety measures as defined by regulatory standards. Additional duties are at the discretion of the laboratory director.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
