Laboratory Assistant performs research activities in a laboratory environment to aid in the planning, designing, and conducting of experiments. Collects, prepares, and tests samples and records measurements or observations. Being a Laboratory Assistant prepares reports detailing results and conclusions, applications, and methodology. Conducts routine maintenance and safety checks on lab equipment to ensure working order. Additionally, Laboratory Assistant assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials and the ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. May be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Laboratory Assistant work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Laboratory Assistant typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. This faculty member is responsible for the implementation, continuation, and monitoring of a six-semester Integrate Lab Sequence (ILS) focusing on the application of administrative, basic, clinical and pharmaceutical science concepts in patient care through simulated pharmacy practice situations. Additionally, other duties may be assigned by the School director.
•Teaching (50-60%)- Serve as the coordinator/instructor of record of courses in the Pharmaceutical Care Laboratory sequence.
- In conjunction with other faculty in the college or independently, participate in the development of contemporary and meaningful hands-on learning exercises or practice exercises designed to reinforce the didactic curriculum, apply administrative, basic, clinical and pharmaceutical sciences to the provision of patient care, and prepare students to practice as an entry-level pharmacist.
- Assist other members of the Laboratory team as needed.
- Offer an elective course related to an area of pharmacy practice.
- Serve as a small group or class facilitator or laboratory instructor as needed.
- Rotate P4 students in academic rotations as assigned by the School Director.
- Coordinate with other COP members including Graduate Students to ensure that teaching experiences have the appropriate manpower and training.
•Service (40-50%)- Participate in local, state and national professional organizations.
- Serve as a member, secretary, or chair of a School/College/ University committee when assigned.
- Maintain the pharmacy lab area as appropriate. This includes ensuring the laboratory is clean and has the supplies needed to have successful laboratory experiences.
- Develop and implement policies appropriate to the Pharmaceutical Care Laboratory.
- Provide appropriate professional community service.
- All faculty are required to demonstrate adequate activity in scholarship on an ongoing basis as defined by the Promotions and Tenure policy of the School.
As a faculty member, promotion to higher ranks of Clinical Professor is encouraged when meeting the guidelines set out by the School of Clinical Sciences Promotion Guidelines and the ULM's Faculty Handbook. As a clinical faculty member, most review will occur on teaching and service activities.
Candidates should have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited college/school of pharmacy ( or equivalent) and experience teaching students in a pharmacy practice setting (preferred). Eligibility for Louisiana state pharmacy licensure is required.
