Job Description:
Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine seeks an Anatomy Laboratory Teaching Assistant as full-time staff to teach, coordinate, maintain, and supervise Human Anatomy laboratory activities. The staff member shall have the responsibilities of assisting the CDM anatomist in the responsibility of teaching and associated laboratory sessions primarily for dental students. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the CDM anatomist, prepare anatomical specimens for instruction, assist in the logistics of instruction and evaluation, provide laboratory support in gross anatomy laboratories, assist with research, and perform other duties as assigned. The incumbent must be a motivated and engaged individual who is excited to help build an innovative and dynamic dental education program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Anatomy Laboratory Teaching Assistant will:- Prepare laboratory exercises in conjunction with CDM anatomist’s course syllabus and lectures
- Work closely with the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences and Lab Manager to
- Set up laboratory specimens and accompanying teaching tools for laboratory sessions, practical
- Assist in the development, organization, and conduct of the anatomy course
- Grade assignments, quizzes, practicals/exams, remediations, and other assessments in
- Arrange and conduct open lab hours and reviews which may include after hours and on weekends
- Proctor laboratory practical exams and clean up afterwards
- Assist with cadaveric dissection, including prosection
- Supervise/carry out the physical set-up and preparation of equipment and materials needed for
- Establish and maintain consistent office hours to be available to students and faculty
- Maintain consistent schedule of arriving and being present at least thirty minutes prior to
- Assist the CDM anatomist in developing course and research project materials
- Assist with data collection, analysis, and processing
- Assist with research conduct and documentation, and in writing research reports
- Documentation development, searching, retrieving, and synthesizing literature, record-keeping,
- Other duties may be assigned in accordance with curricular objectives, learning outcomes, and research related needs
Qualified candidates should possess:
Required:- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college in a life science field
- Applicant must have completed two semesters of Anatomy or equivalent science courses
- Experience in human body dissection, teaching in an academic laboratory setting, knowledge of medical
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and database systems
- Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines reliably
- Able to pay keen attention to details
- Strong academic background in biology, including the specific discipline of human anatomy, and good technical lab skills, including some relevant skills in dissection
- In-depth knowledge of prevention of occupational hazards and laboratory safety
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Photoshop and graphic software mastery
- Excellent teaching skills

Physical Requirements:- Hand/eye skills to follow directions for conducting dissections on human cadavers without injury
- Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead
- Ability to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting
- Ability to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)
- Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions
