Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Laboratory Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     JOB TITLE: Core & Microbiology Lab Manager

    Job Description?:

    Responsible for the overall technical operations of the day shift to include the Core Lab and Microbiology areas.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Responsible for orientating, evaluating and documenting competency of testing personnel. Establishes, maintains and revises departmental policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, performance improvement and safety. Oversees and reviews patient test results and quality control results and takes remedial action when indicated. In collaboration with the Laboratory Director, coordinates the activities of the overall laboratory Quality Improvement Program. Responsible for collecting data and information to enable the monitoring of high volume or high impact processes prone to error. Summarizes and graphs data derived from a set of tacking indicators chosen by the Quality Improvement Committee and prepares reports for internal and/or external reporting. Maintains departmental expenses and productivity as budgeted. Performs all other duties as assigned.

    Education And Experience

    Bachelors in Chemical, Biological, Medical Technology or Physical Science; or equivalent exam is required. One (1) year of laboratory training from an accredited program is required if B.S. is not in Medical Technology. Four (4) years of laboratory testing in a high complexity environment is required. Six (6) years of laboratory testing in a high complexity environment is preferred. Two (2) years of experience in developing, implementing and coordinating a Quality Improvement Program is preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

    Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to work independently, be attentive to detail, and provide quality work. Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, physicians, vendors, clients, and external agencies. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology related to blood collection. Ability to operate medical tools and equipment in carrying out phlebotomy procedures. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of employee, patient, client, and company information at all times. Ability to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws: federal and state regulations, including CAP, CLIA, HIPAA, Safety, and OSHA Regulations. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

    Physical Requirements

    Frequent standing, walking, grasping, carrying, and talking. Occasional sitting, reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers. Light to medium lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Requires visual acuity.

    Work Conditions

    Environmentally controlled laboratory and medical office environment with constant exposure to biological, sharp instruments, and chemical hazards. Fast-paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations. Ability to adapt easily to changing work schedules and work overtime occasionally, as needed.

    Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Director of Technical Operations; Supervision of MTs, MLTs, Lab Aides in both the Core Lab and Microbiology areas.
