Job Summary

LABORATORY ASSISTANT WITH POSSIBLE ADVANCEMENT TO HISTOLOGY TECHNICIAN

We have an immediate opening for a detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to join our excellent team. Position involves routine and limited non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists. Possibility to advance and train as a Histology Technician.

Responsibilities:

· Perform routine hematoxylin and eosin staining and special staining of slides

· Perform quality control of slides

· Perform coverslipping of stained slides

· Organize and label slides, making sure the slides are sent to the proper physician

· Operate and clean laboratory equipment and instruments

· Perform routine maintenance of equipment

· Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining

· File specimen blocks at the end of the day and maintain slide filing system

· Monitor inventory and stock laboratory supplies

· Perform clerical duties associated with the histology laboratory

· Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

· Other duties, as assigned by supervisor

Basic Qualifications:

· At least an Associate’s degree in a laboratory science, e.g., biology, chemistry, or medical laboratory technology (Bachelor’s degree preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

· Relevant laboratory experience is helpful but not required; will train
