Job Goal(s):
The overall job goal of the Project L.E.A.N. Nutrition Educator is to work with PreK-4th grade eligible students and their families to make healthier lifestyle choices by:
Increasing their consumption of fruits and vegetables, whole grain and fat-free or low-fat dairy products
Increasing their physical daily activity
Balancing their caloric intake and output while doing Policy, Systems, and Environmental Changes in the communities where our participants live, work, learn, play, eat and shop.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor or Associates Degree in child development, social work, education, nutrition or other health related field preferred
Work Experience:
Experience in education, nutrition or other health related fields with a focus on Pre-K-4th grade children and their families.
Skills:
Ability to work collaboratively with community partners
Ability to work with at-risk populations.
Communication skills relative to writing, recording, verbal and computing
Ability to keep timely and accurate records
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Dependability skills as reflected by assuming ownership for assigned job goals and responsibilities
Interpersonal skills that will enhance positive relationships with students and their families
Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) is desired
Essential Job Functions:
Implement a healthy lifestyle curriculum which includes educational lessons, cooking demonstrations and physical fitness activities.
Ensure curriculum content is consistent with current dietary guidance and utilize research-based nutrition information and behavioral-based strategies.
Collaborate with project evaluators to develop and implement an evaluation plan consistent with documented outcomes.
Ensure activities are delivered to the eligible.
Maintain a system to document attendance and program contacts.
Cross collaborate with other agencies and community partners.
Work with community partners to develop and implement policy, systems and environmental changes that promote healthy lifestyle changes.
Monitor effectiveness of the program through staff, site and program participant evaluation.
Travel frequently, locally and occasionally within the State.
Participate in family, community and special events consistent with the scope of the program and community outreach initiatives.
Ability to maintain a flexible schedule. (Curriculum development and delivery may involve early morning, evening and weekend responsibilities.)
Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and duties as necessary to accomplish the goals of Project L.E.A.N.
