Ideal candidates will have the following experience, characteristics, and attributes:
As an independent contractor, your income is limited only by how many students your local high schools will accept and the time you can devote to this role. We think it is ideal for a community coordinator to place and support three to six students each year – though some place as few as one student and others place as many as ten or more. Many coordinators can manage a full-time job alongside this position and others focus on this position as their full-time job. Some choose to do this as a paid hobby, a way of giving back to the community, or they enjoy working with the high school students and different cultures. This will not pay the mortgage or provide steady income, but it will provide a small stipend throughout the year for your efforts and time.
High school students are coming from around the world to experience life in America as they study abroad. Your job will be to work to find schools in your area that will enroll exchange students, and to find potential host families who live near those schools. You are paid per placement, are offered bonuses, and can earn points to travel to overseas destinations. If you have questions or would like to know more about PAX, feel free to contact me at kristenh@pax.org.
