The John F. Kennedy Elementary School is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as a fifth grade teacher to cover a maternity leave, beginning January 27, 2025 and ending on May 12, 2025. JOB SUMMARY
Teachers provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can access and make progress towards Massachusetts standards based curriculum and develop social and emotional skills in order to participate in society, while providing a safe and supportive educational environment for all students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences
- Develop lesson plans that align with the state standards
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
- Prepare the classroom for class activities
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
- Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying needs
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
- Use relevant technology to support instruction
- Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
- Provide appropriate feedback on work
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations
- Prepare required reports on students and activities
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
- Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
- Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary
- Participate in department and school meetings, parent meetings
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs
- Keep up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Massachusetts DESE teacher certification that is appropriate for the grade level and subject area assigned. (Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.)
- Highly Qualified as per Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
- Proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to: administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, students, other school staff and visitors
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
- Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
- Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software; and educational software
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable
