  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    Lending Operations

    • Provides general direction and maintains control of the Consumer Loan, Indirect, Real Estate and Member Assistance Departments and of the credit union wide lending and collection efforts in general to maintain a level of member service consistent with the goals and objectives of the credit union. Makes recommendations to executive management for changes to improve member service.
    • Monitors the quality, mix and size of the loan portfolio and recommends changes to loan programs and to lending and collections policies to maintain loan/share, delinquency and charge-off ratios within target ranges as established in the budget and annual plan and approved by the Board of Directors.
    • Promotes organizational efficiencies to improve quality and quantity of member service with technology, enhanced employee productivity, and communication.
    • Responsible for the successful implementation and ongoing performance of all loan production goals for the credit union.
    • Identifies; researches; and evaluates new lending programs (consumer and real estate) for credit union members and makes recommendations to executive management. Assesses new programs for their potential for increased growth and expansion of the loan portfolio, impact on the overall level of portfolio credit risk and cost effectiveness.
    • Coordinates, monitors, and controls the centralized consumer, real estate loan administration, ancillary loan products and servicing systems. Ensures that systems are efficient and effective, contribute to a high level of member service, and protect the value of the credit union's loan portfolio.
    • Contributes to the growth of the credit union and member satisfaction by assisting members in resolving lending related problems. Handles member complaints and problems in a tactful and courteous manner at all times.
    • Approves or denies credit requests that exceed the lending authority of the loan officer handling the loan application in the absence of the Vice President of Consumer Loans.

    Oversight Responsibilities

    • Oversees the activities of the lending area of the credit union, including real estate, consumer lending and the collection functions through the direct supervision of Director of Indirect Lending, AVP of Member Assistance, Vice President of Real Estate and Vice President of Consumer Loans.
    • Oversees the training and development of loan underwriters’ credit union wide, with assistance from the Chief Operating Officer, or their designee.

    Strategic Planning

    • As a member of the executive team and senior management team, develops and recommends plans and strategies to meet the credit union's objectives for service, growth, volume and profitability. Works collaboratively with peers to ensure consistent support of the strategic plan, mission statement and CU1 pledge, demonstrating in daily interactions a commitment to the overall success of the organization.
    • In conjunction with the Vice Presidents and Managers, prepares, manages and monitors the consumer, mortgage, loan insurance and collections budgets and business plans.
    • Identifies areas of cost savings and in conjunction with executive management seeks to improve productivity.

    Regulatory & Compliance

    • Ensures lending systems, procedures and documentation are consistent with federal and state laws and regulations.
    • Must be registered with the National Mortgage Licensing System or become registered within 90 days of hire.
    • Is responsible for ensuring annual registration requirements for the position are met.
    • Responsible for department’s participation in every aspect of the Record Retention program. This includes the creation, identification, use, storage, and destruction in accordance with the policy.

    Other Duties as Assigned

    • Community service is required of all management staff. While some may occur during work hours with the permission of the President, some must also occur outside of normal working hours, at a minimum of twice per year. Community service is defined as serving on a non-profit board of directors, volunteer participation in fundraisers for social services (other than occupying a seat at a Credit Union 1 paid for table), and participation in other social services events. In addition, attendance at management mandated events will be required.
    • Meets the current standards as established for the department in the completion of all assigned duties.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school graduate or equivalent with a four-year degree in related field such as business management, finance, accounting, economics, etc.
    • 7-10 years of experience in a financial institution with at least five years in a senior management position is also required. Experience in lieu of education will be considered.
    • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Must possess the ability to work well under pressure and be capable of working in a tactful, diplomatic and effective manner with members, all levels of credit union personnel, professionals serving the credit union and external auditors and regulators.
    • Responsible for abiding and complying with the policy for compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations (BSA/AML) and the policy for compliance with office of foreign assets control laws and regulations (OFAC).

    Please note: Credit Union 1 does not provide relocation assistance. If selected for an on-site position, candidates will be responsible for relocating to Alaska prior to the agreed upon start date at their own expense.
