LIBRARIAN develops and maintains a collection of books and other materials and provides research and reference support to library users. Researches publications and suggests new sources and offerings for acquisition to enhance the collection. Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The LIBRARIAN occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     About the John E. Jaqua Law Library:
    The John E. Jaqua Law Library is organized as part of the UO Libraries. It is located inside the Knight Law Center on the University campus. The Law Library supports the legal education program of the Law School. The Law School enrolls over 500 students in its JD, LLM, and master’s degree programs, and over 400 undergraduate students in its legal studies minor. We teach legal research skills, assist faculty with scholarship, and provide enhanced learning spaces. Law librarians are members of the UO Libraries career faculty. The Law Library provides comprehensive legal collections in partnership with the UO Libraries. Our collections support the Law School curriculum and special programs, and meet campus legal research needs.

    Position Summary

    In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional instructional and reference services as part of our reference team. You will teach students essential and complex legal research techniques, update our curriculum based on the latest educational research and technologies, and lead the creation of new course materials. Additionally, you will develop assessment methods to measure student outcomes, integrate innovative teaching tools, and expand library instruction opportunities. Working closely with a team of expert law librarians, you will support faculty and student research needs and contribute to the strategic planning of the department, reporting to the Head of Public Services.     Minimum Requirements

    • Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution.
    • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited institution.
    • Six or more years of experience teaching as an academic law librarian.

    Professional Competencies

    • Ability to communicate effectively.
    • Mastery of basic legal research sources and techniques, including database and internet searching proficiencies.
    • Demonstrated ability to teach legal research in both in-person and distance environments.
    • Ability to integrate innovative educational technologies to enhance teaching.
    • Advanced knowledge and skill in student engagement techniques for online/remote teaching.
    • Ability to independently manage a project from conception to delivery.
    • Ability to support and enhance a collegial, collaborative, and diverse working and learning environment.
    • Ability to mentor colleagues in course design, pedagogy, and instructional assessment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Reference and/or instructional experience in an academic law library.
    • Experience providing classroom instruction and distance education, supporting classroom technology and remote or asynchronous instructional technologies.
    • Experience supporting learning management systems, particularly Canvas.
    • Experience using LibGuides.
    • Experience with Ex Libris products, including Alma, Primo, and SFX.
