LIBRARIAN develops and maintains a collection of books and other materials and provides research and reference support to library users. Researches publications and suggests new sources and offerings for acquisition to enhance the collection. Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The LIBRARIAN occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Job Summary:
    Develops and provides reference services including information literacy support and development of print, digital, and subscription resources. Oversees operations, services, and staff of the William Hessel Library. This is a 12 month period that begins in August and ends the following August. Coverage to include some evening hours.

    Essential Functions:
    1. Selects, updates, and orders library materials (hard copy and digital formats), in cooperation with teaching faculty.
    2. Evaluates, builds, and manages digital resources and collections.
    3. Organizes and provides library instruction for all campuses. Assists and advises library users with their information needs using print and online resources.
    4. Creates and maintains digital learning materials, such as research guides and tutorials, to support research instruction and promote library resources and services.
    5. Assists the Associate Dean in developing policies and procedures, fund seeking, and improving programs and services.
    6. Evaluates Library services and collections and maintains awareness of advancements in technology to assure the Library services are current.
    7. Participates with required data collection and reporting for internal and external needs.
    8. Prepares and manages library budget and expenditures.
    9. Supervises, coaches, and supports library staff.

    Other Duties:
    1. Assists at circulation desk as needed.
    2. Assists with Interlibrary loans as needed.
    3. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Accountabilities:
    Under the limited supervision of the Associate Dean, Learning Resources, organizes and disseminates the resources of the William Hessel Library. Coordinates resources from outside the College library for the use of students, faculty, and community users. Supervises library staff and student workers.

    Job Specifications:
    ALA-accredited MLS degree required. Two to three years experience of reference service in online search, and computer skills essential. Experience in a community college library preferred. Knowledge of OCLC, library integrated systems, presentation software, and webpage development preferred. Experience with supervision and budget oversight preferred.
