This position reports to the Wellness Director and under general supervision, is responsible for protecting the lives and well-beings of each patron using the Pojoaque Pueblo Wellness Center swimming pool. This position is also expected to perform maintenance and custodial tasks as necessary to maintain a safe and sanitary aquatics environment. Lifeguards will be expected to keep in accordance with the standards of the American Red Cross.

Incumbent will be expected to prevent accidents by eliminating hazards and hazardous behavior in and around the Aquatic Center, enforce all pool rules, policies and operating procedures; when required to assist patron involved in incidents, accidents and life-encouraging their cooperation and support through positive public relations; assist in maintenance and care of equipment, facilities, and environment maintaining a safe and sanitary condition; establish and perform specific equipment upkeep and repair, maintain lifeguard station; prepare required and special reports as needed or directed; clean and maintain locker rooms and pool area as required; must maintain necessary certifications and perform related duties as assigned by a supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• This position is subject to the Pueblo of Pojoaque’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
• Extensive background checks required.
• Must pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard skills test
• Must be at least 15 years of age and possess a current Life Guard Certificate from the American Red Cross or have the ability to obtain such prior to hire.
• Must be certified in CPR/First Aid/AED or have the ability to obtain such within the first year of employment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, participants, instructors, and the general public.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally; ability to give and understand oral instructions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to swim, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• The employee must be physically able to perform all rescue skills, including backboard rescue and deep water lift.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
