Lineman constructs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground transmission lines. Performs site preparation tasks, including digging holes or trenches, installing anchors, climbing poles, and using equipment like digger derricks, aerial lifts, pulling and tensioning equipment, forklifts, and dump trucks. Being a Lineman installs wire and cable. Follows all safety regulations and procedures. Additionally, Lineman work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a valid Driver's License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Lineman works under moderate supervision. An opening is available for Journeyman Lineman in the Energy Management Department. As Journeyman Lineman, employee will perform various activities pertaining to the installation, maintenance and repair of distribution power lines. Performing high voltage work, maintaining substations, wire meters, and locating trouble areas.
All work will be local, within a 20-mile radius.
This position is from Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and is also required to perform rotating stand-by and after hours/weekend callout duties as required.
Required Skills:
Utilizing a bucket truck or climbing poles as necessary in the performance of tasks such as installing shields, making connections of secondary wiring, hanging transformer banks, energizing/de-energizing lines, and other related job duties. Journeyman Lineman acts as lead person on job site and therefore must be an effective communicator and leader, capable of giving direction to Apprentice Linemen and Equipment Operators within department. A minimum of 7 years experience in Journeyman Lineman level electrical line work is a requirement.
