Loan Officer - Onsite Presence Required

  • What we’re looking for:

    Piscataqua Savings Bank is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Loan Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for originating and assisting with underwriting of several types of loans offered by the bank, including residential mortgages, home equity lines of credit, personal unsecured loans, auto loans, construction loans, land loans, savings, and CD secured loans. The Loan Officer's responsibilities will include interviewing prospective loan applicants, reviewing loan documents, analyzing financial statements and appraisals, and participating in Bank approved community activities to promote the Bank.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Interview prospective loan applicants explaining the PSB’s various programs and their requirements.
    • Obtain pertinent financial and loan information from loan applicants.
    • Analyze loan applications and appraisals to make lending decisions within defined underwriting guidelines and make recommendations to senior management.
    • Prepare for and conduct consumer and mortgage loan closings.
    • Participate in bank approved community activities to increase the bank's visibility and improve new business opportunities. Develop business relations through office contacts, participation in Realtor sponsored functions, and involvement in bank sponsored activities.
    • Demonstrate knowledge, understanding and compliance of current federal and state regulations related to work responsibilities.
    • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of current secondary market underwriting guidelines.
    • Maintaining regular and predictable attendance.
    • Document loan decisions accurately and ensure all necessary provisions are included for loan completion.
    • Collaborate with team members as needed to complete tasks efficiently.
    • Communicate professionally with customers, agents, and other external stakeholders as needed in-person, over the phone, or via email.
    • Adhere to bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements at all times.
    • Perform other duties as assigned to meet ongoing needs of the organization.

    Experience & Skills Required:

    • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
    • Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field or equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum five years of experience in a banking or financial institution setting with proven in-depth understanding of loan products and lending requirements.
    • Ability to interpret financial documents such as credit reports, tax returns, and income statements.
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills to assess borrower profiles and make informed decisions.
    • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and customers to explain underwriting rationale.
    • Proficiency in calculating figures, interest rates, percentages, and ratios.
    • Problem-solving abilities in situations with varying parameters and limited standardization.
    • Familiarity with using computer systems for data input/output transactions.
    • Demonstrate ethical decision-making skills while applying knowledge, understanding, and compliance of current federal and state regulations related to work responsibilities.
    • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple applications at the same time.
    • Valid NMLS ID

    Physical, Mental, and Visual Requirements:

    • Ability to work at a desk on a computer for multiple hours per day.
    • Ability to read a variety of documents on paper or on the computer.
    • Fine motor skills, dexterity, accuracy, and continuous mental and visual attention.
    • Strong verbal communication skills in English to effectively communicate with customers and colleagues.
