Locksmith is responsible for the maintenance, installation, repair, and troubleshooting of locks and keys. Duplicates keys and replaces and re-keys locks as necessary. Being a Locksmith may install or maintain emergency exit systems and electronic access equipment and devices. May design new key or lock systems for an organization. Additionally, Locksmith maintains a thorough records of changes and additions to an organization's key systems. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Locksmith works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Lead and coordinate daily work activities of assigned co-workers.
Perform complex technical work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of City buildings, facilities, and/or parks.
Ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards.
Conduct maintenance inspections to identify potential problems, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs. Reading and understanding blueprints, schematics and technical drawings provide cost and labor estimates.
Perform general building maintenance and repair tasks, including flooring, ceiling tiles, fixtures, roofing, gutters, windows, concrete work, and sheetrock.
Execute carpentry tasks, including installing and repairing cabinets, workstations, doors, windows, and custom woodwork.
Manage and maintain multiple COA key systems, including rekeying and upgrading systems as needed and issuing and tracking keys using the current key request system.
Will be responsible for managing the current key management software system
Ability and willingness to assist other trades as needed.
Operate and maintain various equipment, tools, and supplies necessary for completing essential functions.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, and the public to coordinate work activities and resolve issues.
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight of 50 lbs., or more when lifting in pairs.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
