Job Summary
Performs journeyman level locksmith work to install, maintain and repair building and district locks, master key systems, and combinations mechanical locks. Respond to emergency calls and security concerns and use district software systems for work orders.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain and repair locks, including cutting and fitting keys to locks, designing master key systems, changing lock and key systems, changing combinations on electrical and mechanical locks, and picking and bypassing locks as needed. Install, maintain and repair doors, door hardware, closers, hinges, frames, etc.
- Assists in maintaining the master key system for district security by keeping accurate records of all changes and new lock installations. Maintain necessary lists, computer records, card files, receipts, and other records to account for all key user inventories. Maintains the security of the lock shop and key codes. Surveys building lock systems to assure adequate security.
- Aids during renovations and new construction projects by determining the requirements for locking devices and systems from blueprints, and making recommendations for such systems based upon available products, as well as the installation and monitoring of such systems. Works with administrators to establish locking schedules.
- Determines established, applicable hardware specifications for locks and locking devices by interpreting hardware schedules, blueprints, plans, sketches, work orders, etc.
- Ensures adequate and appropriate stock of supplies and equipment is available for repair and replacement as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, completion of G.E.D., or equivalent vocational school. Specific technical training related to locksmithing is preferred.
- More than five years of experience in locksmith work or 3 years work experience accompanied with an approved vocational certification.
- Criminal background check required for hire.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
- Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) standing with the Associated Locksmiths of America, preferred.

- Regular attendance is an essential function of the position and necessary for the efficient operation of the business. Employees are expected to be on time and punctual for work, conforming to established work hours. It is recognized that there are times when a person must be absent due to illness or other reasons.
