Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     About you and this role:

    The Shops and Infrastructure Maintenance Zone has an available position in the SCO Central Maintenance Shop for a Machinist Technician.  The Central Maintenance Shop generates value by repairing equipment in the machine, pump, valve, instrument, and fabrication shops.  You will work as a member of our Pump Shop Team, working in a dynamic machine shop environment repairing equipment for the St. Charles Operations site and other Gulf Coast Dow shops.  As a member of our collaborative fabrication team, you will have the ability to operate a variety of machining operations both manually and CNC/CAM programming.  As part of our team-based approach, you will be able to take ownership of your contributions, while balancing the needs of the team and the client.  You will have the opportunity to create fabrication approaches to complete projects in a safe, timely, and efficient manner on a diversity of projects.  You will have the opportunity to expand your capabilities in other areas of the Central Maintenance Shop.

    • Routinely uses and implements procedures for daily work, suggests changes and improvements to procedures, as needed.
    • Takes personal responsibility for EH&S compliance within the team, coaching others in proper execution of tasks, identifying opportunities for improvement and intervening on unsafe activity.

    • Communicates technical written and verbal messages clearly and concisely, keeping stakeholders informed of the status of assigned work.

    Required Qualifications:

    • A minimum of high school diploma.
    • A minimum of three years machinist experience.
    • Forklift qualification is desired or must be obtained upon hire.

    • Must have current, valid US driver’s license.
    • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.  No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

    Physical Requirements:

    Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

    • Stand 50% of the time.

    • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.
    • Work in an area with hazardous materials.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • A mechanical degree or certification relevant to this role.
    • API/ANSI Pump repair experience.
    • Manual & CNC experience.
    • CAD/CAM experience. (preferably MasterCam and SolidWorks)
    • Balance Machine experience.
    • Previous safety valve or control valve repair experience.
    • Five more years of industrial maintenance experience.
    • Experience with mechanical test and repair equipment (i.e. alignment tools, dial indicators, micrometers, etc.)
    • Ability to read mechanical seal drawings and schematics.
