Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.     Operate basic manual and field machining equipment.Under technical supervision, can perform the following tasks on basic jobs while maintaining tolerance and finish requirements : Field MachiningDevelop processes, select tooling, and perform setupsUnder technical supervision, can assist / perform the following tasks : Mobilizations of equipment for basic jobsDemobilizations of basic equipmentRepairs and maintenance of basic equipmentFor basic jobs, develop processes, select tooling, and perform setupsUtilize TRACE system for the management and tracking of equipment.

    Ensure dimensional accuracy and quality workmanshipComplete appropriate paperwork as requiredProvide feedback to improve programs, processes, tooling etcMaintain a safe, orderly, and clean work areaPerform shop duties as directed and required.

    RequirementsExperience & SkillsTwo to three years of progressively responsible related experience. Specifically, this position requires : Experience (2-3 years) with manual and / or field machiningExperience with Bridgeport knee millsExperience with manual engine lathesAbility to read and interpret blueprints & mechanical drawingsAbility to operate manual machining equipmentAbility to measure / inspect : lengths, diameters, straightness, flatness, etcAbility to measure using 1-12" O.

    D. micrometers; 1-12" I.D. micrometers; depth micrometers; height stand and up to 24" vernier micrometers.Ability to perform basic rigging.

    Ability to perform basic layout and inspections.Knowledge of carbide drills, end mills, inserted cutters, and boring toolingKnowledge of feeds & speedsKnowledge of the machineability of ferrous and non-ferrous materialsKnowledge and application of cutting oilsKnowledge of tooling insert nomenclatureKnowledge of Morse tapersPhysical DemandsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to do the following : Occasionally talk or hearFrequently sit, use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controlsFrequently stand and walkFrequently climb ladders and stairsFrequently stoop, kneel, bend or crouchFrequently lift and / or move physical products (up to 50 lbs)Frequently use portable hand power tools (angle grinder, drill, power hammer, etc.

    The work is performed indoors in a shop environment or a customer site both indoors and outdoors. Will spend a minimal amount of time outdoors in hot, cold, or otherwise inclement weather during part of the workweek.
