Machinist jobs in Rhode Island
Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. This position is located at our Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI location.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Machining experience or related training
- Ability to interpret technical manuals, shipyard procedures, test documents, blueprints, diagrams, and perform basic layout functions
- Available to work all shifts
- Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
Preferred:
- Experience including setup, operating, with vertical and/or horizontal turning/lathes/mills
- Strong mathematical skills
- Mazak experience
- Vocational, Technical, Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
- Machine technology educational program
- Shipbuilding/Marine Advanced Manufacturing Institute (SAMI) program completion

- Ability to work in a collaborative and team environment to meet organizational goals
