Under the direction of the Risk Manager, assists with the Risk Management Program. Functions by performing investigations of occurrences and claims against the hospital and its subsidiaries. Helps to identify potential risk exposures and conducts inservice training for personnel regarding Risk Management issues. Assists in policy development and implementation.
- Require a minimum of four (4) years of formal education: either with a Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or in a related field OR completion of an RN program, plus an Associate’s degree in healthcare or in a related field.
- Require at least five (5) years of broad-based clinical experience with at least two (2) years in acute care hospital setting.
- Require active State of Florida clinical licensure (i.e., Registered Nurse, Radiologic Technologist, Licensed Practical Nurse, etc.).
- Prefer risk management experience or experience in areas related to healthcare quality improvement/utilization review or clinical audit services.
- Prefer substantial interpersonal skills in order to interact effectively with various departments and agencies on technical matters.
- Prefer computer skills adequate to develop and write reports utilizing Microsoft Word for Windows Excel and data bases specific to the functioning of the department.
- Prefer analytical skills to analyze data pertaining to risk and claims and to prepare reports.
- Prefer the ability to read and decipher detailed handwritten medical/technical information and accurately transcribes into database.
- Prefer expert negotiating skills, and the ability to counsel with patients, family members and employees who have filed a complaint or are involved in an accident or occurrence.
- Prefer business letter writing skills.
- Prefer certification in Risk Management.
