Position Purpose/Summary: The Cost Accountant provides continuous data analysis to assess business expenses related to raw materials, inventory and labor, ensuring accurate inventory valuation and informed pricing decisions. Responsibilities include completing target costing projects, maintaining customer pricing calculations, performing variance and margin analysis, and tracing costs to their underlying activities.
Knowledge-Skills-Abilities
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or business-related field on cost accounting required.
- CPA/CMA certificate or MBA a plus.
Experience
- 5 years of experience in Cost Accounting within a manufacturing setting.
- 5 years of experience in planning, studying, and collecting data to determine the costs of business activity, including raw material purchases, inventory and labor.
- Experience providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability.
- Experience working with personnel of varying levels on the development of cost standards.
- Must have a strong cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills and a sound understanding of accounting principles.
- Experience working with multiple entities and intercompany entries.
- Diligent and dependable, including work ethic, work output, and problem-solving
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize to provide maximum results and output.
- Able to collaborate with other departments, including production, procurement, and sales to gather and analyze relevant data.
Technology/Software:
- ERP experience (Navision preferred)
- Accurate and timely data entry
- Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, complex formulas)
Communication:
- Professional communications skills including formal presentation skills and ability to clearly and concisely communicate in writing.

Position Responsibilities-Tasks-Deliverables

All duties as assigned and the following specific activities.
- Develop and manage standard costs for raw, WIP, and finished goods items.
- Supply data on raw materials costs to aid in the quoting process.
- Revise and manage customer price books to include pricing for new items.
- Analyze raw material costs to conduct quarterly updates of customer price books.
- Analyze inbound freight invoices to determine the actual freight cost of raw materials.
- Calculate and distribute PPV (Purchase Price Variance) owed to or by customers monthly.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement closing process, which includes, but is not limited to: performing various reconciliations, preparing and approving journal entries, calculating accruals and deferrals, and reviewing and analyzing various reports and financial information for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with preparing PBC documents for annual third-party audits.
- Respond to inquiries from and prepare ad hoc reports and financial information for internal and external customers as it relates to material costs, inventory or labor.
- Support management with cost and inventory analyses.
- Calculate and analyze labor and overhead rates
- Perform cost analysis on various sales initiatives
- Identify improvements to costing methods and propose solutions
- Perform regular audits of standard costs, making necessary corrections; conduct an annual cost roll for all items.
