PURPOSE:

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for directly supporting the post cast finishing operations. The goals of the Engineering Department are to improve the quality of all castings so that parts meet customer specifications, directly supporting operation metrics by achieving cost reductions on existing products through improved design and process control.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Primary focal point for all technical aspects of post cast finishing operations.
• Provide on demand technical assistance for manufacturing operations.
• Responsible for improving part manufacturability through process optimization.
• Support the creation and improvement of work instructions and procedures as required.
• Assist in the initial manufacturing cycle of all new detail parts.
• Support all finishing department daily throughput targets as required.
• Work with finishing supervisors and leads to assess risk to schedule.
• Follow-up on the progress of the project through the manufacturing process.
• Optimize part specific labor requirements to improve part level productivity.
• Optimize the specific manufacturing process of the product and implement cost reduction ideas.
• May be assigned to special cost reduction initiatives as part of a multi-discipline team.
• Create and communicate tooling concepts to the relevant engineer.
• Ensure that all engineering changes are implemented.
• Coordinate the design of gaging/fixturing/tooling as it applies to the labor improvement initiatives.
• Develop sound manufacturing processes based upon company's capabilities.
• Check production drawing(s) for technical content.
• Make recommendations and offer credible solutions to product, tooling and processes.
• Critical thinking and communication skills are critical to this position.

REPORTING RELATIONS:

• This position reports to the Engineer Manager.

SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Organizational and communication skills are critical to this leadership position.
• Mental and visual concentration on work while coordinating manual dexterity for sustained work periods
• Must have demonstrated ability to interact with customer and manufacturing on technical issues.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• BS Degree in Engineering
• 2 years experience in the metal manufacturing industry
• Broad knowledge of mechanical, industrial, materials science engineering
