Being a Manufacturing Manager monitors production metrics, responds to and resolves problems. Assists with planning and directing an efficient layout of equipment and flow of materials. Additionally, Manufacturing Manager collaborates with leaders to manage and resolve workforce or labor issues and develop solutions. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Manufacturing Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Manufacturing Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. The GMP Production Manager is responsible for leading multiple production teams, developing staff, fostering a culture of safety and quality, and participating in the oversight of daily manufacture of GMP custom oligonucleotides. This role is responsible for ensuring that production processes are performed in compliance with company procedures and external regulatory requirements. GMP Manufacturing Manager will be responsible for supervising and scheduling the manufacturing activities of shift supervisors and/or team leads, and initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments. The GMP manager is responsible for ensuring the overall production goals are met on schedule.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
Essential Functions:
- Lead and manage production supervisors and team leads, ensuring company policies/procedures are followed
- Ensure manufacturing priorities are completed by:
Communicating expectations and priorities to team members
Managing employee schedules and ensuring adequate staffing levels
Facilitating corrections to malfunctions within processes
Facilitating the scheduling of maintenance activities
Ensuring adequate equipment is available for production requirements
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal suppliers, production support teams and production managers to ensure the most efficient use of time and resources; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments
- Effectively communicate with maintenance staff to ensure production equipment is functional and available for production.
- Review processes and ensure appropriate work instructions are in place as well as write and review manufacturing procedures and documents as needed
- Provide effective leadership through:
Initiating, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures
Performance evaluations and goal setting
Active coaching and mentoring of team members; developing personal growth opportunities
Supplying technical expertise to team members
Enforce company policy and work with management and HR to address individual performance issues.
- Facilitate corrections to malfunctions within the manufacturing processes through initiation of Deviation and Nonconformance reports and/or support tickets, as needed
- Participate in Quality review boards and support CAPA management
- Proactively interface with production group and internal customers to identify and implement areas of continuous improvement
- Executes on objectives and goals to support a positive, efficient and motivated team
- Participate in recruiting and selection of team members
- Oversee and verify training activities
- Responsible for overseeing the safe use of hazardous chemicals in a manufacturing environment on a daily basis
- Supply regular feedback to management on the status of the team, instrumentation and process.
- Provide technical expertise and leadership to team members
QualificationsExperience required
a minimum of 5 years of experience in a related field, and/or demonstration of ability to meet the requirements of a GMP Manufacturing Manager, including previous experience leading teams.
