Position: Materials Manager
Reports to: VP Finance

OVERVIEW
The Materials Manager manages, and coordinates activities involved with procuring raw materials for the organization; manages and coordinates scheduling of materials, components and manufacturing to meet customer schedules as a minimum cost; make recommendations to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency of operations.
Summary: Manages and coordinates activities involved with all materials in the supply chain by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Inventory Management:
- Manage overall yard organization and material handling procedures.
- Ensure proper inventory turnover on a LIFO (last in, first out) basis.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels of raw, WIP and finished goods to meet facility specific and corporate goals, and to ensure fulfilling customer requirements while maximizing cash flow.
- Manage and participate in monthly physical inventory counts in accordance with accounting procedures.
- Responsible for initiating and monitoring a formalized cycle counting procedure to inspect and ensure inventory on-hand accuracy and ensuring Profit/Loss impact communicated to finance team.
- Determine and manage Min/Max inventory quantities for key raw materials, components and finished goods.
- Determine excess inventory levels by part and develop plans to reduce through appropriate substitution methods.
Procurement:
- Purchase material from outside vendors when necessary and appropriate.
- Analyze costs of raw material and procure at the lowest total cost.
- Coordinating transportation for pick-ups at third party mills
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate Vendor/Purchase records.
Material Resource Planning:
- Develop production forecasts and assess raw material and lumber inventory needs based on those forecasts.
- Schedule material needs for Carney operations and Seymour cutting operations.
- Work with Company President, Sales, and Production to determine best raw materials to be used in finished goods production on a customer specific basis.
- Determine “next best use” for rejected raw materials.
- Analyze, manage, report, and track all costs, and cost savings, associated with “Best Use” inventory practices with Finance Department.
- Work with all production areas to minimize waste of material at all inventory levels, including raw material, manufacturing supplies, and finished goods.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS To perform the Materials Manager job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
- Education & Experience
- Minimum of a 2 yr. degree in accounting or inventory control
- 1 to 3 years of Inventory Experience
- Communication Skills
- Ability to read & interpret documents such Balance Sheets, Inventory Lists, General Ledger and other documents that directly pertain to the position.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present data before groups of employees.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Mathematical Skills
- Ability to work with general mathematical concepts.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.
- Computer Skills
- Knowledgeable in the use of computers, including the intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and other programs as required.
- Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
