Mechanical Engineering Manager manages the design and analysis of mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards. Provides technical direction to team members in designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems or components. Being a Mechanical Engineering Manager utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components. Oversees prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and reviews data and analysis to develop improvements. Additionally, Mechanical Engineering Manager manages engineering projects through their entire lifecycle, including cost and requirement analysis, scheduling, and coordinating activities with stakeholders. Establishes programs to support training, process improvements, and best practices and protocols. Leads initiatives with other departments to identify potential products and projects. Stays abreast of new technologies and processes and implements changes to improve the organization's mechanical engineering capabilities. Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Typically reports to a director. The Mechanical Engineering Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.     Position/Description: Mechanical Engineer Project Manager
    Provides professional mechanical engineering and construction management support by performing tasks such as:
    • serves as a general mechanical engineer providing professional and technical leadership, guidance, and expertise in managing contractor executed construction projects on behalf of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
    • serves as an organizational subject matter expert regarding standards and practices for mechanical engineering designs, system components, installations, and system construction, including but not limited to site, facility, and building mechanical systems for commercial, industrial, and residential applications, water treatment and distribution infrastructure and system and waste water collection and treatment infrastructure and systems
    • participates in design reviews of and provides comments on contractor submitted mechanical engineering designs and plans for a variety of applications
    • provides quality assurance oversight, documentation of such oversight, and recommends corrective actions as required to ensure high quality performance on contractor executed mechanical engineering projects or project tasks
    • provides safety oversight documentation and directs corrective actions as required to ensure worker and public safety during the performance of contractor executed mechanical engineering projects or project tasks
    • assists the appointed contracting officer's representative and/or resident engineer in interpreting and enforcing contractual provisions regarding contractor mechanical engineering requirements and deliverables
    • documents and provides reports regarding contractor progress toward accomplishing contractual scopes of work
    • recommends authorization of progress payments based on observed contract progress to established quality standards and specifications
    • maintains professional files in a systematic, retrievable, and contractually enforceable manner
    Required Skills/Abilities:
    • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook)
    • Knowledge of business office procedures
    • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, employees and the public
    • Must be well organized and detail-oriented
    Education and Experience:
    • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited school
    • Minimum of 5-7 years of engineering, construction, and contract administration experience required; 10 years experience preferred
    • Experience on large construction projects ($100 million or more) preferred
    Education and Experience (continued):
    • PE preferred
    • Army Corp of Engineering or other federal project experience preferred
    • Experience with RMS 3.0 preferred
    Physical Requirements:
    • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
    • Should enjoy working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
