Mechanical Engineering Technician assists mechanical engineers in the planning, testing, and maintenance of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Gathers data and project requirements to help prepare proposals, cost estimates, and develop specifications for new parts or prototypes. Being a Mechanical Engineering Technician conducts clerical research tasks and summarizes and reports findings to support research and development of new technologies or processes. Installs, calibrates, tests, and repairs mechanical components and engineering solutions. Additionally, Mechanical Engineering Technician fabricates, modifies, and assembles new or existing mechanical components. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Mechanical Engineering Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. We are looking for dependable, hard-working, team-oriented individuals for our field department. Experience
in land surveying is a plus, but we will train the right applicants. Good previous work history required or recent
high school graduates looking to try out a career in surveying. We are a drug-free workplace.
The Field Crew Member will perform duties related to survey work as directed by the Supervisor and/or
Professional Land Surveyor. The work of the survey crew is physically demanding, including the ability to lift up
to 50 pounds. The candidate must be comfortable with typical work sites such as forests, residential
construction sites, commercial construction sites, heavy and light surface street traffic conditions, near heavy
construction equipment and any site condition related with heavy or light construction.
General instructions are received from a supervisor through discussions prior to beginning work; however, an
employee in this class is expected to use considerable technical judgment in the conduct of field work. Work is
reviewed through conversation, field checks, the analysis of field notes and computations and evaluation of
completed work.
Required Qualifications:
Must have a valid Iowa or Illinois Driver’s License
Ability to work in a crew of two or more individuals as well as working solo for certain tasks;
Professional and efficient interaction with team, staff, clients and public;
Must be comfortable working in residential and commercial construction sites
Must be willing to perform the following duties:
o manual labor such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items, and
stacking rods
o Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting to
measure angles, distances, and elevations.
o Regularly walk, stand, crouch or stoop; frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move
objects
o Walk over rough, uneven, or slippery surfaces
o Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements
o Ability to travel up and down ladders
Position is full time, M-F with occasional weekend or overtime work required, primarily during the busier
spring and summer seasons. Salary is commensurate with experience.
